Another Day Old š¢
2 weeks 5 days ago - 2 weeks 5 days ago
Good morning to the Clan ā hope you all had a smooth, hassle-free weekend.
Iām afraid Forever Young let me down, beaten by the American runner⦠the Yanks do have a habit of spoiling things!
That said, watching Calandagan and Ombudsman was something special ā top-class performances.
Also noted that Albert Einstein doesnāt stay and will likely stick to the sprint distances going forward.
On a more serious note, the situation in the Middle East remains a major concern, and the Russia/Ukraine conflict has quietly slipped off the front pages š¢
A worrying state of affairs globallyā¦
On a lighter note, the anniversary went very well at San Giuseppe in Hillcrest ā a superb spot with great food and excellent live music š¶
Interestingly, itās not licensed at this stage, and we even received a 15% discountā¦
They must have thought Mrs S was a pensioner! š¤£
As for Mad Max ā still an absolute handful. We were advised to try a water spray for discipline⦠turns out he loves it š§
Iāve been taking him for daily walks, and Iām fairly certain my right arm is now three inches longer than my left.
Looking ahead, itās Champions Day on Saturday, which should lift the mood ā plenty of quality racing and strong betting opportunities on offer.
Tarry tends to excel on the big days, and One of These Days along with Gimme a Vodka could get us off to a solid start.
This is a card weāve been discussing for weeks.
A few early thoughts:
The Oaks isnāt part of the exotics, but Hazy Dazy could land the Triple Tiara for the connections š
The Sprint may produce a surprise, though itās hard to look beyond Buffalo Storm Cody, Kingdundee and William Robertson
The big question: can a filly like Curious Girl take on the colts in the Derby?
Itās rare to see a filly in a race like this. I canāt recall a filly winning the English Derby, and locally, while Rolandās Song beat the colts, it wasnāt in the Derby itself.
Remember a tradition Derby is a mile and a half š
If anyone can rewrite the script, though, itās MDK.
Double Grand Slam looks a potential banker
But itās not easy to ignore Golden Palm
Bob will be opening a thread shortly for Saturdayās card so we can dive deeper into the best plays.
Unsurprisingly, the Donald thread is still dominating discussions ā plenty of opinions flying around there.
Hereās a bit of food for thought for us old folksĀ
Good punting š

I think that the going for Albert Einstein was far to heavyĀ
Still canāt understand why Ireland kick off the flat season in March. Mid to late April when the weather is warmer and the tracks are starting to absorb all the rainfall would be better.
Weird how those who support Ukraine also support Trumps war yet Trump supports Russia.Ā
Tamarind Bay in the opener at Newcastle today although has a high mark has a 5lb better qualifying than the rest of the field 5/1is a more than fair priceĀ
Have a safe trip when you come to Scotland (weather up and down atm and may get to the dizzy high Ā of 15 tomorrow)Ā

3 SA derby winners stand out for me
Kwiktan for Mrs Barnard smashing them by many lengths
Pedometer for Mrs Barnard. Cant find a replay
Horse Chestnut for MDK smooshing them.
