Imagine

Good morning all,

I’d much rather leave politics aside and just talk about sport. But during troubled times like these, it’s sometimes hard to simply imagine switching off and enjoying the fun.

I watched the link on BizNews and listened to Brent Bozell, and I must say I tend to agree with much of what he said.

It’s been an interesting week for me. Mrs S is in KZN visiting the grandkids, and I must admit I’m missing her. I’m also trying to behave myself with the takeaways and the occasional drink 🍸.

To be fair, she did leave me food. Unfortunately, after putting a bowl in the microwave, it somehow took me 30 minutes to clean the kitchen afterwards 😅.

We’re still unsure about our upcoming trip via Qatar. The petrol ⛽ price situation could become serious, although I won’t have a problem. I’ve always stuck to the discipline of putting R500 in the tank, and I’ll continue doing just that 💪😉.

Racing

This weekend feels a bit of an anti-climax after the excitement of last Saturday at Turffontein Racecourse, followed by the incredible week at the Cheltenham Festival.

Highlights included:

Hazy Dazy

William Robertson

And of course Lossiemouth, one of my favourite horses. Interestingly, it’s also the name of a lovely small town on the northeast coast of Scotland near Inverness — well worth a visit.

But perhaps the biggest thrill was Il Etait Temps winning the Champion Chase. That was an enormous moment for Devin Heffer and the Hollywoodbets team — and something I’ve been talking about for months.

It’s already incredible to have a runner at Cheltenham. Winning the Champion Chase takes things to another level entirely.

Next year… the Cheltenham Gold Cup perhaps? 🏆

Today’s Racing

It’s Gold Cup Day, and on what looks like a tricky card, Dinoblue and Doctor Steinberg stand out for me.

Local Racing

Gqeberha today

Turffontein Racecourse Saturday

Best bet:
Almond Sea — tough draw, but still a solid each-way chance.

Football

I still believe Arsenal should go on to win the Premier League.

Up in Scotland, Hearts remain on top — and 11/10 still looks a good price.

Rugby

I was very proud of Scotland’s performance, but beating Ireland national rugby union team is always a difficult task.

For me, France national rugby union team should go on to win the Six Nations Championship.

With everything going on in the Middle East at the moment, it makes you think. Perhaps it’s a pity John Lennon wasn’t a politician after all.

Good punting 👍
