Weekend Racing & Sport Preview | Betway Summer Cup, Jump Season Highlights & More

Good morning, Clan —
It’s Betway Summer Cup week, and excitement is building!

With the big day arriving this Saturday (weather permitting šŸ¤ž), punters can look forward to one of the most competitive cards of the season. It’s a tough-looking meeting on paper, and the Pick 6 has all the ingredients to return a monster dividend.

I’m hoping to be healthy enough to attend — and a few close friends have runners on the day, which always adds to the thrill.

We’ve also got a fun competition running courtesy of Elvis, so please join in. It should be slightly easier than winning the Hollywood Punters equivalent… although the prize might be a little smaller! 🤣

Jump Season: Clash of the Titans

The UK jump season is now in full swing, and this weekend’s standout clash should be Constitution Hill vs The New Lion.
We’re shaping up for vintage renewals of both the Cheltenham Champion Chase and the Champion Hurdle.

Hollywood’s Il Etait Temps adds even more excitement and is expected to line up in the Tingle Creek on 6 December— a must-watch.

Local Racing Action

Fairview (PE)

Richardthefearless – one for the lads and definitely worth following.

Turffontein – Saturday (Summer Cup Day)

My interests and hopes for the big meeting:

Northern European

William Robertson

Elegantrix

African Pride / Melech

Hazy Dazy

Jan Van Goyen

Chronicle King

The Equator / King Pelles

Nebraas

The ante-post markets have been lively all week.
Golden Palm continues to attract strong support for the Cape Fillies Guineas, while we wait to see what Jan Van Goyen produces to get a clearer line on Gimme Rules for the colts’ race.

Early markets have Eight On Eighteen priced up as favourite for both the L’Ormarins King’s Plate and the WSB Cape Town Met, though Dean Kannemeyer’s yard will provide some stiff opposition.

Rugby

The Springboks should be far too strong for a battling Wales side and are expected to continue their winning run.

Football

Arsenal continue to impress. šŸ’Ŗ

Liverpool have stumbled.

Newcastle’s big win last week shows progress.

And the standout fixture this weekend?
Chelsea vs Arsenal — a London derby always worth watching.

Off the Track

Our judicial system continues to drag its feet, with bail applications and endless postponements becoming the norm. A frustrating watch, to say the least.

Here’s an old classic from Loving Spoonful to brighten your day and hopefully bring luck for the weekend’s punting:

Good punting! šŸ‘
