Hollywoodbets Durban July Log
2 years 11 months ago
GOLD CIRCLE MEDIA RELEASE
Automatic qualifiers occupy the top five places on the Hollywoodbets Durban July (HDJ) Log as issued today by Gold Circle. The number one position is occupied by Splashout Cape Derby winner, See It Again, who is also the 6/1 ante-post favourite for South Africa’s premier horse race to be run for R5-million on Saturday 1 July.
The 20 horses, including two reserves, are listed in preferred order and is a clear indication of who would line up in the 2023 Hollywoodbets Durban July if the race were to be run tomorrow. However, there are still several key races to be contested over the next month, with opportunities for horses outside the top twenty to make the final cut.

For me the following horses should not be in the Top 20:
SAFE PASSAGE - has not proven anything this season and was injured
DAVE THE KING - will not stay 2200m
JIMMY DON - will not stay 2200m
SECOND BASE - was flattered by a slow run race last time and is a struggler
I really like ZAPATILLAS but I wonder where he will run next? (under the radar horse.
The following horses should be on the log:
HOEDSPRUIT - has run well this season
ROCKPOOL - nice up and coming horse
SAARTJIE - horse has really improved
SHOEMAKER - rated highly

For me I agree that Dave the King is doubtful to get the trip, same with Zapatillas and Jimmy Don; for some reason Hoedspruit has shortened in the market, even though he is not on the log - Shoemaker who knows
next few weeks will be interesting

I thought Do it again would be dropped a few points after his run on the week end.

Zapatillas and Shoemaker share the same dam which makes them half siblings.

I did notice the July marketing is everywhere
From Joburg International to arrival in Durban
The HOLLYWOOD signs are there to greet the punters

Hollywood are great Marketers.
I wonder why they selected such poor software for their betting site. Everyhing does not fit onto one screen and you have to scroll alot. Can they not spend the Marketing money on getting this right first!!!

Did not see the race today - but just looking at the result it was a much better run - I have him as a 116 which was pretty much what he achieved today - so any further would make him very competitive - but not off top weight imo
- so it would depend if the handicapper drop him
Of the older horses, I think Rascallion has the most going for him - currently will get 1kg from both Pomp & Power, Safe Passage and Do It Again; P&P could still run close to his rating come Saturday, but surely Do It Again needs to d more
Of the 3yr olds imo lots of them like Jimmy Don, Billy Bowlegs and Son of Raj are flattered by their ratings imo (I know Son of Raj gets and automatic qualification which is not right imo) and I think it would be more fair if runners like One Way Traffic and Hoedspruit get in
Let's see what happens
